Looking North

Out for a family picnic. Stopping at the top of Home Hill or Annika's Mountain with the view of Obelisk Lake (to the right) and Lacy Falls, on the Hoarfrost River in the distance.

Summer Barge

Having dropped off the fuel and supplies at our home and in Reliance, Tony and his sidekick, aboard his boat, push the barge with empty fuel drums back to Yellowknife. They are heading west, back to Yellowknife almost to Taltheili Narrow in this shot. Dave and I flew over them when we were returning from a flight.

Bearberry in the Autumn Light

A trip to the barrens to pick cranberries and check out the autumn tundra. It did not disappoint, never does when I can get up there.

Taya and pTarmigan

November at the edge of the ice to get water for the house, dogs and laundry. While we were out there I heard the swoosh of wings, looked up and saw this amazing movement of ptarmigan as they passed in front of us.

Daughters and dogteams on the Hoarfrost River

At first glance, it is hard to see the two dog teams as they travel across Lacy Pond, on the Hoarfrost River but Dave and I were lucky enough to catch them as our daughters, Annika and Liv as they were returning home from a run. It was a moment of serendipity when everything came together.

Annika on the Ice

As we flew over the teams I was able to get a close-up shot of Annika on the multi-coloured frozen overflow on Lacy Pond.

The same idea as the close-up shot but here you can see her as she heads to the base of the hill and climbs out of Lacy Pond.

Hoarfrost River Homestead

Dave and I were in flight as storms passed over the land and a rainbow, yes a rainbow came out as we were almost home. The gold at the end of the rainbow.

Steam, sun and orange light cap off the end a December day as we wait for freeze-up to be complete.

Looking north, up the Hoarfrost River. Lacy Pond and Lacy Falls are two of the most sites to share with friends and family when they come to see us.

The Magic of Water

A close-up shot of something we sometimes take for granted. Water. Reflecting the blue sky with a little wind to create some texture it makes for a calming scene.

Spring Break-up on McLeod Bay

A late night spring flight with Dave in our Husky airplane to see the sights. This peninsula is down by Taltheilei Narrow and the timing was perfect as evening light hit the rugged cliffs.

Evening Light

Returning home, late evening I looked back at McLeod Bay to see the light. Pink sky, crescent moon and ice on the water. Beauty.

It is hard to see a photo of a seagull and not think of good old Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I don't know this ones background but I do know they make their home and raise their young on the island just to the west of our home.

Blue Ice, Candled Ice

This happens every spring, at some point the ice candles or breaks into small fingers of ice. Here the colour and reflections are the points of the image.

School is over for the day so out we go for a late day run through the jumbled ice.

Full moon Husky

Dave returned home at just the right time. Full moon rising and landing lights on. Mirror images of each other.

Aurora frames the scraggly spruce trees on the island in front of our home.

At the mouth of the Hoarfrost River, Taya stands on the shore and takes in the sights and sounds of the water as it courses under the ice.
